BMW’s Mightiest M car- the M5 CS

BMW M has officially revealed the M5 CS or Clubsport as the most potent and fastest-accelerating car the brand has ever produced. Just Five of these ultra-rare, golden wheeled monsters will reach South African shores but is it worth the premium.

2021 BMW M5 CS

Off the bat, the BMW M5 CS is powered by the same 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 petrol engine making 467 kW of power (7 kW more than the most potent LCI M5 Competition) and has a whopping 750 Nm of torque. The CS is paired with an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear-biased all-wheel-drive M xDrive system to send all power to the rear wheels via the 2WD function. BMW M claims it will sprint from 0-100 km/h in a mere 3.0 seconds, a top speed of 305 km/h. Parts bespoke to the CS to enhance performance include gold-bronze-finished 20-inch alloys wrapped in standard Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres with 275/35 front and 285/35 at the rear. M carbon-ceramic braking system. Comprises 6-piston fixed red callipers, and single-piston floating callipers. BMW claims it weighs 23 kg less than the steel-disc setup that features on the M5 Competition. BMW has made extensive use of Carbon Fibre reinforced Plastic and other weight-saving methods to achieve a reduced weight of 70 kg. To reduce the sedan’s kerb weight to just over 1 800 kg Dry, the M5 CS’ bonnet, front splitter, side-mirror caps, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, M Power engine cover and intake silencer are all made from CFRP. Some elements feature exposed carbon fibre, the manufacturer says.

2021 BMW M5 CS – Exterior design

To help differentiate the M5 CS from the standard and Competition M5s, the CS is fitted with M8 GTE inspired yellow L-shaped laser lights, gold bronze grille surrounds, gill bars, model badging and 20-inch rims. The CS gets carbon fibre treatment on the front splitter, bonnet with air vents exposed with CF, mirror caps, roof, rear spoiler and functional rear diffuser. As standard, the CS is fitted with stainless-steel sports exhaust system. Colours for the M5 CS include the Brands Hatch Grey metallic and the exclusive BMW Individual matt paint finishes – Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic.

2021 BMW M5 CS – Interior design

The most noticeable change to the new M5 CS interior are the four M Carbon bucket seats for the front, and rear passengers with Nurburgring outlined on each headrest. The CS also features red stitching and accents throughout the cabin and CS badges and illuminated M5 CS door sills.

2021 BMW M5 CS – Pricing in South Africa 

Only five units have been earmarked for the South African market, and deliveries will begin in the 3rd quarter of 2021. There will be a rather significant price difference between the standard model and the CS with another Auction from BMW likely. No details have been confirmed at this point.
